Turmeric is a spice that I’ve been a bit fascinated with lately. I heard someone say that many believe that turmeric is the “gold” given to baby Jesus by the wisemen along with frankincense and myrrh. While I don’t know if it’s true or not, it does lend itself to it in my mind. Why? Because the health benefits of this herb are huge! Currently, there are over 12,500 peer-reviewed articles published proving turmeric benefits, especially one of its renowned healing compounds, curcumin.

Practitioners in Traditional Chinese Medicine have been prescribing turmeric for centuries. Here are some of the uses of turmeric according to Dr. Axe:

  1. May Slow or Prevent Blood Clots
  2. Reduces Depression Symptoms
  3. Fights Inflammation
  4. Boosts Skin Health
  5. May Reduce Joint Pain
  6. Lowers Blood Sugar
  7. Decreases Cholesterol
  8. Aids Digestion

There are a few side effects from turmeric as well. I would consult with your doctor before beginning any new regimen.  Turmeric can reduce blood clotting, should be avoided during pregnancy, and can effective digestion.

Do you include turmeric in your wellness plan?
