Herbs can be a powerful ally in reducing the pain and frequency of headaches and migraines and sipping an herbal tea is one of the gentlest, most effective ways to find relief.

As I’ve learned more about natural living and whole, unprocessed foods, I’ve realized that many of the aches and pains we consider “normal” today are anything but. A century ago, headaches weren’t nearly as common as they are now. The rise in food additives, dyes, preservatives, pesticides, and herbicides has brought a host of new health challenges.

That’s why I choose to look to nature first — especially when it comes to frequent headaches. I’d rather support my body with a holistic approach, using food and herbs as medicine.

These plants have been trusted for thousands of years in folk remedies across the globe, from Traditional Chinese Medicine to countless other healing traditions. Their long history and proven results remind us that herbal wisdom is a skill and art worth preserving.

So let’s have a closer look at what’s in this brew that I call “m-grain tea”. It’s a fine combination of white willow bark, valerian root, chamomile, peppermint & rosemary.

  • White Willow Bark – Traditionally used as “nature’s aspirin,” it contains salicin, which may help ease pain and reduce inflammation.

  • Valerian Root – A natural relaxant that can calm the nervous system and support muscle relaxation, potentially reducing migraine tension.

  • Chamomile – Known for its gentle sedative and anti-inflammatory properties, helping to relax the body and ease discomfort.

  • Peppermint – Contains menthol, which may help improve blood flow, cool the body, and ease headache-related nausea.

  • Rosemary – May promote circulation and has antioxidant properties that support brain health and reduce oxidative stress.

To make the tea you’ll need:
1 tsp white willow bark (mountain rose herbs | amazon)
1 tsp valerian root (mountain rose herbs | amazon)
1 tsp chamomile flowers: (mountain rose herbs | amazon)
1 tsp peppermint (mountain rose herbs | amazon)
1 tsp rosemary (mountain rose herbs | amazon)

Add the herbs to a French press or a teapot with a built-in strainer with 8 oz hot water. Cover and steep for 5–10 minutes to preserve the beneficial compounds.

Strain and drink at the onset of a migraine. You can add a little honey too if you prefer. If needed, repeat after 4 hours.

If you don’t want to purchase all the individual herbs, but would like to try the tea blend, you can find it premade and ready to use in my shop.
