Soothe Sun-Kissed Skin Naturally with This DIY After-Sun Spray

With Memorial Day weekend around the corner, summer adventures are officially calling. Whether you’re headed to the lake, planning backyard cookouts, packing picnic baskets, or spending long afternoons gardening, sunshine-filled days are one of the sweetest parts of the season.

But if you’ve ever stayed outside just a little too long, you know how quickly skin can start to feel warm, dry, and irritated after sun exposure. That’s why I always keep a simple homemade after-sun spray on hand during the warmer months.

This cooling botanical blend is lightweight, refreshing, and made with skin-loving ingredients that help calm and hydrate sun-kissed skin naturally. Best of all, it only takes a few minutes to make.

Why You’ll Love This After-Sun Spray

Unlike many store-bought after-sun products filled with synthetic fragrance and harsh ingredients, this DIY version is gentle, soothing, and customizable. Each ingredient serves a purpose, creating a nourishing mist your skin will thank you for after a long day outdoors.

Lavender Essential Oil – Lavender essential oil is one of the most beloved oils for skincare — and for good reason. It’s known for its calming and restorative properties, making it especially helpful for skin that feels overheated or irritated after sun exposure. Lavender may help support the skin’s natural healing process while also providing a relaxing aroma that feels grounding after a busy summer day.

Peppermint Essential Oil: Peppermint essential oil brings an instant cooling sensation to the skin thanks to its natural menthol content. Just a few drops create that refreshing “ahhh” feeling after time in the heat. It can help the skin feel revitalized and refreshed, especially during hot and humid summer weather.

Vitamin E Oil: Vitamin E is deeply nourishing and moisturizing for dry or sun-exposed skin. It’s often used to support skin repair and help maintain softness and hydration. Adding it to this spray gives the formula a little extra skin-loving nourishment.

Aloe Vera Gel:  Aloe vera is a classic after-sun ingredient because it helps hydrate and cool the skin while providing soothing relief. Its lightweight texture absorbs beautifully and leaves skin feeling refreshed instead of greasy.

Witch Hazel: Unscented witch hazel acts as the base of this spray and helps tone, cool, and calm the skin. It also gives the spray a lightweight feel that makes it perfect for hot summer days.
