When seasonal sniffles, congestion, and that heavy, irritated feeling in your chest or throat start making their way around, I love having a simple herbal tea blend on hand.
This particular combination of mullein, horehound, peppermint, and oregano is one I reach for when I want a warm, comforting cup that supports my respiratory wellness and feels especially soothing during cold and allergy season.
It has a lovely balance of earthy, minty, and slightly bitter herbs—and a little honey brings everything together beautifully.
🌿 What’s in This Herbal Tea?
This blend combines four herbs that each bring something special to the cup.
Mullein – Mullein is one of my favorite herbs to keep in my herbal pantry when it comes to respiratory wellness. Traditionally, mullein has been used in herbal preparations for soothing the respiratory tract and supporting comfortable breathing. Its gentle nature makes it a wonderful foundation for this tea.
Horehound – Horehound has a long history of traditional use as a respiratory herb, particularly in herbal preparations for coughs and throat comfort. It has a distinctly bitter flavor, but don’t let that scare you away! A little honey balances the bitterness beautifully.
Peppermint – Peppermint brings a bright, cooling flavor to the blend and helps make the tea much more enjoyable to drink. I also love adding peppermint because it balances the stronger flavors of the horehound and oregano.
Oregano – Oregano isn’t just for the kitchen! This aromatic herb has traditionally been used in herbal preparations for respiratory and digestive wellness. It adds a warming, savory note to the blend and pairs surprisingly well with the other herbs.
This blend combines four herbs that each bring something special to the cup.
1 tsp mullein (mountain rose herbs | amazon)
1 tsp horehound (mountain rose herbs | amazon)
1 tsp peppermint (mountain rose herbs | amazon)
1 tsp oregano (mountain rose herbs | amazon)
Add the herbs to a French press or a teapot with a built-in strainer. Let steep for 5–7 minutes, then strain and enjoy. I like to stir in a little honey for added soothing and sweetness.
